The star of "Run the Race" gives a candid account of his turn away from God, and how God brought him back.
Run the Race, from executive producer - and star Christian athlete - Tim Tebow, hits theaters this weekend. The faith-based film features Evan Hofer and Tanner Stine as teenaged brothers who lean on each other and their athletic talent to navigate the death of their mother and abandonment by their alcoholic father.
Kristoffer Polaha, who plays that part in the film, spoke recently with The Christian Post and recalled his own challenge of faith as a teenager growing up in a Christian family in Reno, NV. At 17 he was acting in lead roles in local plays, had a pretty girlfriend and wondered if he really needed God.
"I said, ‘I'ma find out. I'm not going to pray for like six months. I'm just going to kind of go off into the wilderness.'"
His sojourn away from the Lord ended up lasting not six months, but six years. During that time, Polaha looked into lots of religions, but says God eventually reached out and brought him back into the true faith.
"He (God) met me one night and He knocked on my heart and He said, 'I want you back.' And for me, that was the Christ narrative. It made the most sense and it was the one that I just related to."
