The Christian film expands its presence as it looks to keep momentum going for weekend number three.
Overcomer will add 326 locations nationwide, according to Box Office Mojo, bringing its theater count to 2,153. That makes two straight weekend increases and takes the total 25% higher than the 1,723 theaters it opened with two weeks ago.
The movie's performance so far makes it easy to see why new venues are being added: it has brought in more than $20 million in revenue, which is four times what it cost to make. That's already moved it into 23rd place all-time at the box office in the Christian genre. And if predictions of $3.7 million more this weekend prove accurate, it should be just outside the Top-20 come Monday.
Overcomer is the latest film from the Kendrick Brothers - Alex and Stephen - who are the top filmmakers in the faith-based movie business. It has a Christian message of forgiveness, redemption and love, plus a strong cast of Believers: Cameron Arnett, Shari Rigby, Priscilla Shirer, Aryn Wright-Thompson and Alex Kendrick, who also co-wrote the script with Stephen and directed the picture.
