Stephen Baldwin's Got a Faith-Based Comedy

The film from the Christian actor is coming out in fall.

Stephen Baldwin in a scene from another movie, "The Least of These," which was released earlier this year.

It's called Church People and Stephen Baldwin will be doing double duty, both acting in and producing the picture. It will also feature his older brother William Baldwin in a small part, and is designed to bring a faith-based message to a younger audience.

The tagline for the film is, "Christians have always been funny, just not on purpose," and it pokes some good natured fun at believers and our way of doing things. Stephen Baldwin, like many in the Church, takes very seriously, however, where things stand today in the culture at large, particularly as it concerns the youth. In an exclusive interview with Movieguide, he describes the breakdown of society as "a spiritual war."

"You just walk around any major city in America today, you just see these kids: they got a blank stare, they're totally lost, they're disconnected. There is no truth."

Movie theaters now offer a regular stream of serious - and often heavy - Christian content, but Baldwin hopes a comedic approach may prove more accessible for young people. It's a view shared by executive producer Mike Lindell, founder and CEO of My Pillow. He is a commited believer and is helping fund the movie, as he did with the current pro-life film Unplanned. Not surpisingly for a Christian businessman who is worth hundreds of millions, he wants both a Godly message and top-notch filmmaking.

"When we were putting this together - Stephen and I - I said, 'We want to make it quality, not just have this great message and the comedy, but quality-made."

As with Unplanned, Mike Lindell will have a cameo appearance in Church People. Joey Fatone (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Donald Faison (Scrubs) are also in the cast, and though the exact release date is not certain, Baldwin says it should be in the fourth quarter of this year. Christian Film Blog will keep you abreast of updates and there should be plenty of them, because as Lindell put it in the interview, he's "got a big mouth." Gotta love a man with a self-deprecating sense of humor.
