The film will again focus on the faith walk of Mercy Me lead singer Bart Millard.

With the launch of production just weeks away, we now know when fans can go to see I Can Only Imagine 2. The sequel to the 2018 hit movie I Can Only Imagine, which is about the story behind the biggest song in contemporary Christian music, will roll out in theaters in just over one year: on March 20, 2026.
As in the first movie, this new one will again profile Bart Millard - the man who wrote and sang the number one song I Can Only Imagine - but it will feature a different popular tune from the band, Even If, that came later when one of the lead singer's children was confronting a serious health issue. Actor J. Michael Finley is on board to reprise his role as Millard in the sequel, as are Dennis Quaid and Trace Atkins, playing the parts of Millard's father and manager, respectively.
As we previously reported, Christian filmmakers Andrew Erwin and Brent McCorkle will co-direct the film through Kingdom Story Company in partnership with Lionsgate. Production is set to take place in Nashville, Tennessee, this April and May, and there is a need for lots of extras to fill out concert scenes.
