His Only Son followed up its strong debut with another impressive showing in its second weekend in theaters, bringing in $2.8 million in ticket revenue from Friday through Sunday, according to Box Office Mojo. That is enough to put the faith-based picture in sixth place overall this time around, after it claimed the third spot on its opening weekend.

The first feature film from Christian writer/director David Helling, who is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, it tells the story of God's demand that Abraham sacrifice his promised son Isaac. With an estimated production budget of a meager $250,000, His Only Son is already a phenomenal success, having earned total box office revenue of $10.6 million so far.

That is in part thanks to the fact that it was picked up by Angel Studios for distribution, the outfit behind the hit streaming show The Chosen. The Utah-based company put together a crowdfunding campaign of $1.2 million to cover marketing costs for the film, which is playing in a respectable 1,930 theaters.
