The film about Jesus' final days also earns a high rating from moviegoers.

It is still a wee bit early for Easter fare in our humble opinion, but that did not seem to hurt The Last Supper over the weekend: the faith-based pictured drummed up more than $2.8 million in ticket revenue, according to preliminary estimates from The Numbers website. That puts it in sixth place overall from Friday through Sunday, and it did even better based on per-theater-revenue, taking fourth place by that measure when stacked up against the overall Top-10.

Paying customers were also evidently pleased with what they saw, because the film earned the highest CinemaScore rating of any new pictured from the weekend, garnering an A- on an A+ to F scale among opening-night viewers surveyed by the market research company.
The movie from Pinnacle Peak Pictures stars Australian actor Jamie Ward in the role of Jesus, and features James Faulkner and Robert Knepper in principal parts. Directed and co-written by Italian filmmaker Mauro Borelli, The Last Supper is executive produced by Christian music star Chris Tomlin.
