The directorial debut from Joel Smallbone of For King & Country again claims a spot in the Box Office Top-10.
Unsung Hero delivered nearly $3 million in ticket sales from Friday through Sunday, according to figures from The Numbers website. That is a drop-off of more than 60% from its open last weekend, when it claimed second place at the box office, but it is still good enough for seventh position overall.
The film, which has earned $13.1 million through ten days in release, tells the coming-to-America story of the Smallbones, the Australian family that produced well-known Christian music acts Rebecca St. James and For King & Country. That latter band consists of her younger brothers Luke and Joel Smallbone, and Joel stars as their father in this picture, which he also co-wrote and co-directed together with veteran filmmaker Richard Ramsey.
Unsung Hero is the latest project from the Christian brothers Andrew and Jon Erwin and their Kingdom Story Company, currently the top studio in the faith-based genre. The Alabama duo executive produced the film, which is the fifth feature through their partnership with Lionsgate.
