The faith-based film tells the true story of a child who demonstrates a joy for life despite facing serious health issues.

The Unbreakable Boy delivered $2.3 million in North American ticket revenue over the weekend, its first in release, according to Box Office Mojo. A solid number in its own right, it looks even better in light of the fact that the picture earned that despite playing in a relatively modest 1,687 theaters. The performance was enough to put the film in eighth place overall at the box office from Friday through Sunday.

The movie was written and directed by Christian filmmaker Jon Gunn and produced by the brother duo of Andrew and Jon Erwin, and Kevin Downes through their Kingdom Story Company. It stars Jacob Laval as the aforementioned boy, who suffers from autism and brittle bone disease, Zachary Levi in the role of his father, and Christian actors Patricia Heaton and Todd Terry.
An adaptation from a 2014 book entitled The Unbreakable Boy: A Father's Fear, a Son's Courage, and a Story of Unconditional Love, the film was well received by audiences, too. It earned an A rating - one notch below the highest possible mark - from opening-night moviegoers who were surveyed by the research company CinemaScore.
