The story is geared for young audiences and will be told through the eyes of a teenaged Apostle John.

The feature film is called Light of the World and it is a 2D animated production that will take moviegoers through the entire ministry of Christ, from AD 30 through the Crucifixion and Resurrection a few years later. It comes from a Christian outfit called The Salvation Poem Project that "is committed to sharing Jesus with the World through song and story," according to the movie's website.

Among those behind the production are some heavy hitters in the world of animated pictures, including Head of Story and Animation Director Tony Bancroft (Mulan, Mary Poppins Returns), and Co-Directors Tom Bancroft (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King) and John Schafer (CBN's Superbook).

In addition to Jesus, the movie will feature other familiar characters from the Bible, including the Apostles Peter, Andrew, Matthew and the aforementioned John, as well as Mary - the mother of Jesus - Nicodemus, Caiaphas, Pontius Pilate, and Mary Magdalene, among others. Schafer states in a press release that he believes the film will touch viewers of all ages.

"We are bringing a modern 2D animation approach to the timeless story of Jesus from a perspective that will resonate with the whole family. I am so excited for audiences to experience this story on the big screen."

The movie is scheduled to release in American theaters on September 5th, 2025. Christian Film Blog will bring you updates as we get them, but in the meantime, the teaser trailer below will give you a better sense for what you can expect from the picture.
