Brazil Delivers for "Overcomer"

The South American nation generates two thirds of the Christian film's international box office revenue.

Overcomer wrapped up its North American theatrical run last month, having earned nearly $35 million in ticket receipts and claimed second place in the Christian genre for this year (Breakthrough took first with over $40 million). This film, from the brother duo of Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick, has now brought in an additional $3.1 million overseas, the bulk of which comes from Brazil.

As we reported earlier, that South American country - far and away the largest on the continent - is becoming an increasingly important market for faith-based films from the U.S. More than 700,000 Brazilians went to theaters to see Overcomer, generating more than $2 million, according to Box Office Mojo, which is 6% of the movie's total worldwide revenue.

Director and lead actor Alex Kendrick turned to social media to tout the news about moviegoer turnout in that country. And he included this in his post:

"Thousands have made decisions for Christ. Praise the Lord!"

Praise the Lord, indeed! If you missed Overcomer when it was in theaters, Christian Film Blog recommends you check it out. You can purchase it in any of the available formats via this link to the movie's website.
