The pro-life Christian movie is nearing the end of its theatrical run, but gets a surprising increase in venues over the weekend.
Now in its ninth week in release, Unplanned brought in more than $18,000 from Friday through Sunday, according to The Numbers. The film played in 64 theaters nationwide, a 70% increase from the previous week, which is something of an unusual development this late in its theatrical run.
This picture, from the writer/director team of Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, has performed well, bringing in a total of nearly $18.1 million against a production budget of just $6 million. And it has done that in the face of vigorous and repeated efforts to suppress it by pro-abortion forces, as we detailed here. That campaign of suppression is not limited to the US either, as the film has been out and out blocked in Canada, a country with an abhorrent abortion-on-demand culture.
Unplanned, based on a memoir by the same name, tells the story of Abby Johnson, a former abortion clinic director who is now an outspoken pro-life advocate. The film features strong performances from Christian actresses Ashley Bratcher, in the role of Johnson, and Robia Scott, who plays her boss at the abortion company.
