Candace Cameron Bure's Success a Double-Edged Sword

A desire for continued high ratings touched off serious anxiety issues, but she leans on her faith to combat it.

Perhaps the leading lady on the Hallmark family of networks, Candace Cameron Bure is also one of the biggest Christian stars in Hollywood. And as we have shared repeatedly, she lives by her faith, is very open about its preeminence in her life and actively shares the Gospel.

That does not, however, mean that the 44-year old does not face challenges despite all the professional achievements God has blessed her with. In a recent podcast interview with Christian author Jordan Raynor, she shares how the success of her previous Hallmark Christmas movies had led to worsening anxiety each year. That's because all seven of them have been top performers in the ratings, raising concerns that she would eventually "slide off that pedestal."

Back in November, on the eve of the premiere of her most recent Yuletide flick, If I Only Had Christmas, Cameron Bure actually became sick to her stomach from the worry, prompting her to have a "come to Jesus moment," as she puts it, about the issue and finally deciding to turn the situation over to the Lord.

"I just prayed, 'God, please. I don't want this anxiety. I want to just enjoy what I do.'"

And that, of course, is making top-notch, family-friendly entertainment, not worrying about the ratings, which she was able to do by surrendering her anxiety to God. It takes quite a bit of humility to be able to admit having such shortcomings, particularly in a public forum, so we commend Cameron Bure for her courage. We suggest you check out the entire 37-minute podcast via this link, because it's quite inspiring and will give you a real sense for the depth of her faith.

And if you're a fan of her work, then you'll be glad to know she has something new coming out this weekend. It's the latest installment of the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries she stars in. This one is called How to Con a Con and it will premiere on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Sunday, March 14th at 8:00 PM Eastern/7:00 PM Central.
