The film features Brett Varvel and Micah Lynn Hanson, who both starred in our inaugural movie several years ago.
We here at Christian Film Blog pull for all faith-based pictures to perform well, but we will be rooting a little harder for Disciples in the Moonlight since we personally know and like some of the principal players. Lead actors Micah Lynn Hanson and Brett Varvel, who also directed this film, were two of the main actors in our 2020 feature, Miracle on Christmas.
So, we can state with authority that they are talented performers and a pleasure to work with. They are also both committed Christians and we look forward to catching them in this new picture...we have not yet seen it, by the way.
The story is set in the not-too-distant future in a dystopian America, where the authorities have "banned the Bible for 'offensiveness' and replaced it with a government-approved version," as the synopsis puts it.
Varvel and Hanson portray a couple working together with other Believers to smuggle authentic Bibles to underground churches throughout the Midwest. They do so at their peril, too, because there is a "ruthless federal agent in hot pursuit" of the whole team.
But this is not all action and chase scenes, with Hanson calling the film "totally a date-night movie," as their characters' "faith binds them together and shows that enduring love can survive even through the darkest moments." Varvel adds that it is those "darkest moments that refine our faith and make it unshakeable."
