The Christian movie still manages a Top-20 finish at the weekend box office despite a steep fall in revenue.
Overcomer earned $420,000 from Friday through Sunday, according to The Numbers, putting it in 17th place overall. That revenue is down, however, more than 50% from the previous weekend, largely because the movie's theater count dropped from some 1,200 venues to 672 over the same period.
The sixth feature film from the brother duo of Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick, Overcomer is entering its seventh week in release and has enjoyed success. It now sits in 19th place all time in the Christian genre for ticket revenue, according to Box Office Mojo, having brought in a total of $33.9 million.
That puts it about $600,000 behind the number 18 film, 2011's Courageous, another Kendrick Brothers' hit. Overcomer, which has a strong cast of Christian actors, including Priscilla Shirer, Shari Rigby, Aryn Wright-Thompson and Cameron Arnett, probably will catch it before its theatrical run comes to a close, but likely won't do so until next week.
