The faith-based film tells the true story of a family that found hope in the church as they fled their homeland in the Soviet Union.
Best-known for her role as Mary Magdalene in the hit streaming series The Chosen, Elizabeth Tabish continues to burnish her feature-film bona fides with a lead part in a picture entitled Between Borders. Coming out in January, it is based on the true story of an Armenian family facing ethnic discrimination that ultimately prompts them to seek asylum in the United States.
The Texas-based actress previously played a leading role in the 2023 Christian thriller The Shift and will have a part in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, which releases next month and is directed by Dallas Jenkins, the creator of The Chosen. In this movie, she portrays a wife and mother named Violetta Petrosyan, who becomes a refugee together with her family.
Set in the late 1980s, the film was shot earlier this year in Romania, a country that was part of the Communist Eastern Bloc and doubles nicely for the Soviet Union, where the action plays out. From StoryLight Productions - the outfit behind 2022's Pursuit of Freedom, another faith-based film with an Armenian angle - this picture is focused on Christian hope in the face of severe difficulties, according to co-writer and co-producer Isaac Norris.
"We're not just telling a story; we're bringing to life the incredible journey of a family that represents hope, strength and the power of faith. The Petrosyans' resilience and grace throughout their harrowing journey challenges us all. Their faith shines in circumstances that many of us will never understand."
In addition to Tabish, Between Borders features a good cast, including Christian actor Stelio Savante (Nefarious) and Michael Paul Chan (The Closer). It is scheduled for a limited engagement release in theaters nationwide from January, 26th - 28th of next year. Christian Film Blog will let you know once tickets go on sale, and, in the meantime, you can get a better feel for what to expect from the trailer below.
