Lionsgate inks the Alabama pair and their producing partner Kevin Downes to a deal for more Christian content.
Under terms of the agreement, Andrew and Jon Erwin, together with Downes, will develop, produce and direct feature films and television shows for the company under its newly created Kingdom banner. The deal comes on the heels of the three men's smash hit I Can Only Imagine. Earlier this year, that film about Christian Rock star Bart Millard of Mercy Me brought in $83 million domestically - on a budget of just $7 million - for Roadside Attractions, a Lionsgate affiliate.
In announcing the deal, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Joe Drake and Television Group chair Kevin Beggs praised the Erwins and Downes, saying they were proud to expand their relationship and recognize the vibrant sector that is faith-based entertainment.
"This deal underscores our ongoing commitment to continue to serve moviegoers with premium faith-based content."
On their Instagram page, the Erwins made clear they have not lost their focus because of their success.
"From the very beginning our goal was to put the Gospel on a bigger stage by pushing for quality faith-based films. By telling stories that resonate with both Christians and non-Christians alike. "
There is no word yet on when we can expect to see the Erwin Brothers' first film under this new deal.
