Good Opening Night for "The Reliant"

Updated: Oct 26, 2019

The faith-based action adventure flick claims a spot in the Top-10 at the box office.

The Reliant brought in $408,000 in ticket sales its first night, according to Box Office Mojo, putting it in seventh place overall. Alas, the first night was also the last, though, so there will be no more in-theater revenue.

Yes, for reasons we don't fully understand, filmmakers choose to do a limited one-day release via Fathom Events. That strikes us as an odd choice, because this one certainly could have generated significantly more money had it used a more traditional distribution model. Granted, theaters claim about half of all ticket revenue, but we feel confident the normal route would have worked out in the filmmakers' favor.

The movie, which focuses on civil unrest in an America suffering from economic collapse, has a good cast, including Christian actor Kevin Sorbo, Brian Bosworth, Mollee Gray and Grammy-nominated, Dove Award-winning Christian singer Nicole C. Mullen. And being a pro-2nd amendment movie - lots of self-defense with firearms in this picture - it also has appeal beyond just the traditional faith-based audience.

It will be interesting to see how much pent-up demand there is once The Reliant becomes available for purchase; that happens on December 3rd when it comes out in both DVD and digital formats. You can pre-order via this link to the movie's website.
