The first picture from the Christian actress' production company picks up two trophies at this year's Movieguide Awards.
Candace Cameron Bure is off to quite the start at Great American Family channel, where she is both chief creative officer and the top on-screen star. She led the way for the network this past Yuletide season with her inaugural movie there, A Christmas...Present, and the faith-based picture just took home top honors at the annual Movieguide Awards.
The made-for-TV film, which is the first produced by her Candy Rock Entertainment company, won in the Best Family Television category while Bure won a Grace Award in the television category for her performance as the lead in the picture. In a social media post announcing it, the 46-year-old California native said she was "humbled and grateful," adding that her "heart is full of gratitude and love." Bure also thanked the network and its founder and CEO Bill Abbott for helping her bring this kind of movie to the screen.
"Massive thank you to (Bill Abbott and Great American Family) for being unashamed to share Scripture and the name of Jesus on cable television and for your dedication to faith and family entertainment."
Bure is a devout Believer, and she left the Hallmark family of Channels last year in order to make "faith-filled" content, as we reported at the time. Great American Family is not exclusively a Christian channel, and thus it airs secular programming as well, but since it topped several ratings categories for growth in the fourth quarter of last year among cable channels, you can almost assuredly expect more Christian films on the channel going forward.
As for the awards show, which is run by the faith-based movie reviewing organization Movieguide, it will air on February 26th on the UPTV cable network and feature other Christian nominees we cover regularly, including The Chosen and its lead actor, Jonathan Roumie.
