The apocalyptic action thriller lands in the Top-10 over its debut weekend.
The latest picture from Angel Studios went a long way toward covering its estimated production budget in its first three days in theaters, bringing in $6 million from Friday through Sunday, according to figures from The Numbers website. That gets Homestead within $2 million of what filmmakers spent and puts it in fifth place overall at the box office for the weekend.
Starring Neal McDonough, Bailey Chase, and Christian actor Jesse Hutch, the movie takes place after a nuclear strike on Los Angeles leads to societal breakdown. McDonough's character is a wealthy man who has built a fortified compound - The Homestead - for just such a circumstance.
The main action of the movie, which has a companion television series streaming on the studio's platform, plays out in that redoubt, where he and many others hunker down with an armed militia he has hired. Moral dilemmas abound as they endeavor to survive the post-nuclear chaos.
