Fans of Biblical epics have something to look forward to this February: a new show about the life of King David. The eight-episode series will follow his rise from shepherd boy to monarch, and it will play exclusively on Amazon's streaming service, Prime Video.

House of David is a joint production from Amazon MGM Studios and the Wonder Project, a new independent studio founded by Jon Erwin. He is one of the top filmmakers in the faith-based genre and someone best-known for films like I Can Only Imagine and Jesus Revolution, the latter of which he made with his brother Andrew Erwin through their Kingdom Story Company studio, which also played a part in the making of the new show.

This is the first production from Wonder Project and Jon Erwin came up with the idea, making him series creator. He is wearing many other hats, as it were, serving as one of the executive producers, and having also written two of the episodes and directed four of them.

Jon Gunn, himself a devout Believer like Erwin, is one of his partners at Wonder Project, where he serves as the company's Head of Story officer. He did much of the rest of the heavy lifting on this series, directing the other four episodes, writing two of them, and exec-producing one. They also brought along another well-known Christian filmmaker in an advisory capacity: Dallas Jenkins, the creator and director of The Chosen, the hit streaming series about the earthly ministry of Jesus.

House of David was filmed in Greece and the casting was painstaking: Erwin and team searched four months to find the actor for the lead role, ultimately settling on a newcomer named Michael Iskander, an Egyptian-born American who comes from a stage-acting background. Another American actor, Stephen Lang, plays the prophet Samuel, and the show features the famous moment from Scripture (I Samuel 16) where he anoints David. There is also, of course, the storied battle with Goliath - the Philistine Giant - and interactions with King Saul and his son Jonathan, who would become David's beloved friend.

The trailer below features all these moments and more, and it will give you a better feel for House of David. The series is slated to premiere on Prime Video on February 27th, with the first three episodes all becoming simultaneously available and to be followed by a single new episode each week from there on.
