It was quite a weekend in theaters for The Chosen from Christian filmmaker Dallas Jenkins. The second part of its fifth season claimed third place overall at the North American box office in its debut from Friday through Sunday, bringing in more than $6.9 million, according to The Numbers website.

As if that were not enough, the first part, which released last weekend - claiming third place then - followed up this weekend in seventh place. It delivered just shy of $1.9 million this time around, bringing its total box office haul thus far to an impressive $17.9 million through just ten days on the big screen.

The Chosen stars American actor Jonathan Roumie as Jesus and tells the story of the Savior's earthly ministry. The series is immensely popular, having already garnered more than 250 million viewers worldwide before this latest season began rolling out, so this performance is not altogether unexpected, and it is also not done yet either.

Not only will parts one and two - consisting of episodes one and two, and three through five, respectively - be in theaters for another week, but the third and final part - episodes six through eight - releases on Thursday, April 10th. You can get all the details and purchase tickets via this link to the website of the show.
