The latest project from Christian actor Kirk Cameron is getting close to crossing the finish line. The first season of Adventures with Iggy and Mr. Kirk put out its trailer this week and the show has topped 90% of its financing needs for the full ten episodes.

The 54-year-old husband and father of six adult children is teaming up with a puppet iguana - the aforementioned Iggy - for this live-action production that will also feature animated clips and is aiming to "teach solid morals, like Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood," the children's television show that starred Fred Rogers and ran in the United States from 1968-2001.

Cameron is working with Texas-based Brave Books - with whom he has put out multiple children's books - to produce this program. They hope it will mirror the company's publishing efforts to provide parents with an alternative to most existing children's fare, which in a letter on the show's website he said, "attacks their morals and undermines what we try to instill in them."

"That’s why I am making "Adventures with Iggy and Mr. Kirk," a new children's show that brings God back into the forefront of children’s entertainment. It will be like a modern-day "Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood," entertaining children while developing their character in every episode."

To that end, it will provide a strong Christian component as it seeks to actively "spread the Gospel." Fellow Believer and Hollywood actress Leigh-Allyn Baker is joining Cameron as a regular cast member as well.

Brave Books is financing the program through a crowdfunding campaign and has thus far raised about $1.15 million of the $1.25 million they need for all ten episodes, according to their website. As we previously reported, initial plans were to release the first two seasons simultaneously this year on the company's new streaming platform, but funding realities have apparently altered that.

In addition to now just releasing the first season, Brave Books will roll it out on YouTube instead of on its own service. The show will be free to watch and Christian Film Blog will keep you updated on the timing of its debut. Until then, you can check out that trailer below, and this link will take you to the show's website if you would like to contribute to the crowdfunding campaign.
