The Christian actress and Bible teacher plays a leading role in the upcoming movie from the Kendrick Brothers.
Priscilla Shirer has a history with the filmmaking duo of Alex and Stephen Kendrick, having appeared in two of their previous hit movies: War Room from 2015, and their 2019 production, Overcomer. The 49-year-old wife and mother of three also shares the deeply held Christian convictions of the former pastors, telling rapper Lecrae in a recent interview that they are "men of such integrity."
In The Forge, she plays a single mother of a young man without direction in his life - portrayed by newcomer Aspen Kennedy - until he is taken under the wing of a successful Christian businessman, played by Cameron Arnett, who begins to both mentor and disciple him. And it is that latter issue that provides the central message of the film: the critical importance that discipleship must play in the lives of Believers.
The actress, who is even more well-known as a Bible teacher in women's ministry, states that the Kendricks view filmmaking as "their calling, their ministry, and they want the church so much to be edified." She feels that this movie is one that Believers need to see.
"I'm hoping it translates well and that people are endeared to it and that they hear the message, because the story is worth paying attention to."
The Forge, which also features several other actors who have appeared in past movies from the Kendricks - Karen Abercrombie, Ken Bevel, and T.C. Stallings - releases in theaters nationwide on August 23rd. In the meantime, the trailer below will give you a better feel for what to expect.
