The hit series about the life of Christ will also roll out a new Christmas special on the big screen this Yuletide season.
The legion of loyal fans of The Chosen have two theatrical events to look forward to in the next several months. The big one, of course, is the debut of Season 4 of the show early next year, with the eight-episodes releasing in three batches.
Episodes 1 - 3 kick things off on February 1st and will play for two weeks, running through February 14th. On February 15th, episodes 4 - 6 release - also for a two-week run - and they will be followed by episodes 7 and 8, which are scheduled to hit the silver screen on February 29th. Distribution will be handled by Fathom Events for theaters in America and Canada, while a host of companies will distribute the show overseas in places like Latin America, the United Kingdom, Poland, Australia and New Zealand.
According to a press release, the show promises plenty of action and intrigue in this new season, including, "Clashing kingdoms. Rival rulers. The enemies of Jesus close in while His followers struggle to keep up, leaving Him to carry the burden alone." Lead actor Jonathan Roumie, returns in the role of Christ, as do the cast that plays the 12 Apostles and the rest of the disciples.
This, of course, is not the first time the show has released episodes in theaters, and success of past Christmas specials and Season 3 episodes are a good indicator of what we can expect from Season 4's release. Show creator and director Dallas Jenkins says in that aforementioned press statement that he and his partners are giving fans what they want.
"Every time we've dipped our toes in the theatrical waters, viewers have overwhelmingly told us they want more. After seeing the Season 4 episodes, we knew we'd be doing our fans a disservice if we denied them the chance to see them all on a big screen with others they can laugh and cry with."
Now to that other theatrical event, which actually comes before Season 4: this year's Christmas special. It is called Christmas with The Chosen: Holy Night and it "weaves The Messengers (the 2021 Christmas movie from the show) and The Shepherd (the short film that launched The Chosen) into one new remastered and re-scored story," as the press release puts it. The production will also feature the great Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo performing musical numbers and a couple of monologues connected to the holiday.
That limited engagement - also distributed by Fathom Events - will launch in theaters on December 12th and run through December 17th. Tickets are not yet available for either the Christmas special or Season 4, but Christian Film Blog will let you know when they go on sale. In the meantime, check out the trailer below for Season 4.
