Fans of faith-based stage performances came out to the movie theater in good numbers for Daniel. As we reported last week, a live version of the production from Pennsylvania-based Sight & Sound Theatres played on the silver screen for the Labor Day holiday weekend, and it generated almost $2 million from Friday through Sunday, according to Box Office Mojo. That puts it in 12th place overall in ticket sales.

The performance ran on Monday as well - the actual holiday - which pushed its total box office haul above $2.6 million for its four-day theatrical release. That is a good showing for Sight & Sound, an outfit well-known for its elaborate stage productions of stories from the Bible, and one that is now trying its hand at feature films.

Having released I Heard the Bells in 2022 during the Christmas season, the company is currently in production on its second movie: A Great Awakening. That one will tell the true story of 18th century preacher George Whitefield, whose revival meetings helped spawn what became known as The Great Awakening, also the source from which the film draws its name. It is due to release in theaters in 2026, and the trailer below will give you a better feel for it in the meantime.
