The faith-based Christmas movie holds on to its position in its second weekend in theaters.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever brought in an estimated $5.4 million in ticket sales from Friday through Sunday, according to preliminary figures from The Numbers website. Though that is down about 50% from its debut a week earlier, it again puts it in third place overall at the box office.
From director Dallas Jenkins, the creator of the hit streaming show The Chosen, this film is based on the bestselling 1972 childrens book by the same name. It centers on a small-town church Christmas play that is taken over by group of rough-around-the-edges siblings, who - to the surprise of everyone involved - end up opening the town's eyes to the true meaning of Christmas.
Produced by Kingdom Story Company (founded by Christian filmmakers Andrew Erwin, Jon Erwin, and Kevin Downes} through its partnership with Lionsgate studio, the picture has earned $19.9 million through ten days in release in North America, meaning it is well on its way to turning in strong numbers before its theatrical run comes to an end.
