The faith-based movie manages the feat in its sixth weekend in release.
Director Dallas Jenkins' The Best Christmas Pageant Ever delivered almost $1.3 million at the North American box office from Friday through Sunday, according to figures from The Numbers website. That is just a 14% drop from the previous weekend and it puts the picture in ninth place, moving up one position, which is a rare occurrence after 38 days in theaters.
This comic drama - based on a 1972 children's book by the same name - stars Judy Greer and comedian Pete Holmes, and it is a project that Jenkins pursued for more than 15 years, as Christian Film Blog previously reported.
The creator of The Chosen, he and his partners at Kingdom Story Company and Lionsgate studio are no doubt glad he did not give up, because the movie is a big hit: it has so far generated $36.6 million in ticket revenue on an estimated production budget of $10 million.
