The faith-based Yuletide picture enjoys a strong box office showing over Thanksgiving Weekend.
After dropping to sixth place the previous weekend, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever climbed one spot into fifth position Friday through Sunday, according to The Numbers website. Clearly audiences are in a Christmas mood, because it generated $3.2 million in North American ticket revenue, down just six percent from a week earlier, and that came despite the fact that its theater count dropped from 2,279 to 1,779 over the same period.
Directed by Dallas Jenkins, the creator of the hit streaming show The Chosen, this movie is based on a bestselling children's book by the same name. It tells the tale of a small town that learns the true meaning of Christmas after a group of outcast siblings lands leading parts in a popular church play.
Through four weekends in release, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever has brought in about $32 million, putting it on track to be one of the top-grossing pictures in the faith-based genre this year and giving another hit to the Christian outfit Kingdom Story Company. Founded by the brother duo of Andrew and Jon Erwin in partnership with Lionsgate studio, it has produced films that include I Still Believe (2020), American Underdog (2021), and Jesus Revolution (2023).
