Theaters taking part are also adding showings to help meet audience demand.
In another indication that The Chosen has become a true phenomenon, its coming Christmas special set the one-day ticket-sales record for Fathom Events. That word comes from the series' social media team and, though they do not give any numbers by which to quantify said record, it must be sizable since previous faith-based films shown through Fathom Events have been known to push the million-dollar mark.
The creator and director of this show about the life of Christ, Dallas Jenkins, announced Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers in a livestream on Tuesday night, as we reported here, and mentioned even then that people were having difficulty procuring tickets in some locations. The tremendous demand has prompted Fathom Events - a joint venture between AMC, Cinemark and Regal, the three largest theater chains in America - to add additional showings.
This 2021 Christmas special will feature a new episode of the show that will focus on the Nativity story and star the actors who played Mary and Joseph in the pilot that launched this hit streaming series; actors from the show's regular cast will also take part. After the episode, a host of top Christian music groups will perform classic Christmas carols and some new songs as well.
The aforementioned social media post thanks fans for their support and references, as you can see, those additional dates for showings. That latter point, however, is not yet reflected on the Fathom Events website where all tickets are being sold. While it will no doubt change, at this writing, Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers is still listed as playing only on December 1st and 2nd. Christian Film Blog will keep an eye on developments and update you as warranted.
UPDATE - Oct. 28th at 5:20 PM EDT/2:20 PM PDT: Wow, what a dramatic change in the number of days in release: instead of two days, as originally planned, this Christmas special will now play in theaters for 10 days! That's more akin to a normal theatrical release than the limited engagements that Fathom Events normally specializes in. The above link to that outfit's website is still the way to get your tickets.
