That theatrically released production is among the finalists for Movieguide's most inspirational films of 2021.

Having shattered ticket-sales records for its distributor when it released last December, Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers is no stranger to success. Now it is in the running for an Epiphany Prize at the 30th annual awards show from the Christian movie reviewing organization Movieguide.

The Christmas special from The Chosen - the hit streaming series about the life of Christ - tells the Nativity story from the perspective of Mary and Joseph; the production also features a host of top Christian musical acts like Phil Wickham, For King & Country and Jordan Feliz performing Christmas songs. Originally scheduled for just a two-day special engagement, it shattered the box office record for Fathom Events in the first 12 hours of advance ticket sales and ultimately brought in $13.7 million after its theatrical run was extended to two weeks.

The picture is facing stiff competition for the title of most inspirational movie of 2021, however, from other faith-based productions, including American Underdog, The Most Reluctant Convert, and The Girl Who Believes in Miracles. You can check out the full list of nominees in that category and all the others via this link to the Movieguide website. No word yet on when the winners will be announced, but Christian Film Blog will let you know once it happens.
