The team behind the streaming show about the life of Christ also hopes to start shooting season three in the spring of next year.
Talk about an extravaganza, The Chosen is coming out with a brand new episode and a star-studded lineup of Christian musical acts this Yuletide season. It's called Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers and it will hit theaters nationwide December 1st and 2nd.
The episode will tell the Nativity story through the eyes of Mary and Joseph and feature the actors who played in the pilot episode of this show about Jesus' earthly ministry. Sara Anne and Raj Bond reprise their roles as Jesus' mother and father from The Shepherd, which series creator/director Dallas Jenkins made for his church in 2017 and ultimately ended up paving the way for this hit series.
The new episode will kick off the Christmas special and be followed by a who's-who of contemporary Christian music performing beloved Christmas carols and new songs as well. Among the artists included are For King & Country, Brandon Lake, Jordan Feliz, Matt Maher, Maverick City, We The Kingdom, Cain, The Bonner Family and Phil Wickham.
In a livestream announcing this event, Jenkins also gave an update about season three of The Chosen, telling viewers that a new permanent set for the show is currently under construction at a Salvation Army camp ground outside of Dallas, TX. In addition to a replica Holy-Land town from the time of Christ, it will feature a 25,000 to 40,000-square-foot sound stage.
If things go according to plan, the director says that he and his team could launch production as early as March, 2022; he did not, however, give any target release date for the first episodes.
