This comes as the fifth season of the hit series about the life of Jesus is still riding high in theaters.

Christian filmmaker Dallas Jenkins and the cast and crew of The Chosen are back on set in Texas, filming the penultimate season of the faith-based show. All eight episodes of Season 6 will be set on the day of the Crucifixion, and the 49-year-old creator and director of the program has stated before that this will be "the most challenging season" yet from an emotional perspective because of the subject matter.

American actor Jonathan Roumie, a self-described "born again Catholic," stars in the role of Jesus and he and the rest of the team have made this show into a global phenomenon, garnering more than 250 million viewers thus far. And the eight episodes of Season 5 - currently playing in theaters - have already generated more than $36 million, which in turn has pushed the total haul for all of the theatrical releases from the show over the years above the $100-million mark: an impressive feat, to be sure.

That continues a long line of blessings that God has showered on this endeavor from the very beginning back in 2018, when The Chosen set the all-time crowdfunding record for a media project and continuing through its recent exclusive deal with Amazon's Prime Video streaming platform. Jenkins and his partners hope all of the success will ultimately translate into one billion viewers and a multitude of new Believers.

Season 6, as with previous installments, will film at both the program's home facility in Midlothian, Texas, and at a mockup set of first-century Jerusalem in Utah. No word yet on when we can expect the episodes to start releasing, but past performance would suggest sometime in the first half of next year. Until then, you can still catch Season 5 in theaters, and this link to the show's website will help you find a local venue and purchase tickets.
