The faith-based picture tells the true story of a young man who overcame infirmities to achieve his dream of playing professional baseball.
The inaugural weekend in theaters went well for The Hill, which brought in $2.3 million from Friday through Sunday, according to The Numbers website. That was enough to put the sports biopic in ninth place overall.
The film tells the story of Rickey Hill, a baseball prodigy from Texas who battles through the pain of a degenerative spinal condition to earn a spot on a minor league roster. It stars Christian actor Colin Ford in the role of Hill and Dennis Quaid as his father.
While Hill's faith is certainly inspiring - you can read more about him here - the movie's performance, though solid, is not off-the-charts good. Having played in 1,570 theaters in its debut, it will be interesting to see whether The Hill can hold firm at that level for weekend number two.
