After just three weekends, the Christian film's theater count falls into single digits.
The Least of These, which tells the true story of martyred Christian missionary Graham Staines, brought in $5,300 over the weekend, putting it in 67th place overall at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo. That is not much money for a film entering its third week in release, but a precipitous drop in the number of theaters showing the film makes it unavoidable.
The film, which stars Christian actors Stephen Baldwin and Shari Rigby, as well as Bollywood veteran Sharman Joshi, debuted in 625 theaters three Fridays ago, but is now down to just eight. Shot on location in India, where Staines and his family served as missionaries working with lepers, this Aneesh Daniel-directed movie will hit theaters in that country on March 1st. With a mostly Indian cast, perhaps it will fare better there than it has in the United States.
So far, The Least of These has made $606,000 at the US box office. That puts it at 116th on the list of all-time top money makers in the Christian genre.
