The famed singer and actor leads a strong cast of Christian players in this faith-based tale.
Based on a book by the same name, The Mulligan tells a story of second chances, using the game of golf as a primary backdrop. As any golfer knows, a mulligan is a second chance to take a tee-shot, making it a do-over, and that phenomenon is a metaphor in the movie, representing the grace God extends by offering redemption in life to those who come to Him through faith in Christ.
Eric Close plays the lead role in the picture and is a hard-charging, successful businessman whose personal affairs are in shambles. Separated from his wife and estranged from his son, his character has a meltdown during a Pro-Am tournament, which paves the way to a mentoring relationship with "the Old Pro." Played by Pat Boone, that character is interested not only in issues of golf, but also of character and the spirit.
Still spry at 87 years old, Boone is best-known as a signing icon who has sold more than 45 million records dating back to the 1950s. He has dozens of TV and film credits, too, including roles in faith-based films like The Cross and the Switchblade and God's Not Dead 2. In a press release for the movie, the Florida native and devout Believer says he's "thrilled to be part of a film that will impact many, many people" because it mirrors a reality facing each of us.
"We are all in need of second chances in life and you never know how God may be planning to redeem your story."
The rest of the cast includes some big names, including sportscaster Jim Nance, professional golfer Tom Lehman and pastor Jentezen Franklin, each of whom plays himself. In addition to Boone and Close, the film features several other strong Christian actors: Tanya Christiansen, Nancy Stafford and Jason Burkey, who stars in our inaugural feature film, Miracle on Christmas.
The Mulligan will release on April 18, 2022 as a special engagement from Fathom Events. You can get tickets to a theater near you via this link to their website and, in the meantime, the trailer below will give you a better feel for what to expect.
