The first installment of Season 4 of The Chosen brought in an estimated $1.4 million yesterday, according to early estimates from The Numbers website. That put the film in second place and only about $300,000 behind first-place finisher, Argylle, an action-adventure flick that opened last night as well but did so in 3,100 theaters versus 2,183 for the hit show about the life of Christ.

The Chosen, which stars 49-year-old native New Yorker Jonathan Roumie in the role of the Jesus character, will release all eight episodes of this fourth season on the silver screen. These first three episodes will play through February 14th, followed by episodes four through six February 15th-28th, and concluding with episodes seven and eight February 29th through March 7th; the entire season will then roll out for free on the show's app sometime after that.

Check back in with Christian Film Blog to see how The Chosen performs over the course of its inaugural weekend at the box office: we should have preliminary numbers on Sunday night.
