The inaugural production from Wonder Project is rolling out today on Amazon's Prime Video, the outfit that helped produce the program. The eight episodes of House of David - half of which were directed by Jon Erwin and half by his partner Jon Gunn - follow the rise of David from shepherd boy to king.

As Christian Film Blog previously reported, this is the first effort from the new studio founded by Erwin and it features newcomer Michael Iskander as the youthful David. Following the Bible's telling of the story, at God's direction, he is anointed by the prophet Samuel to take over the thrown from the disobedient King Saul. The series will feature the moment of that anointing, David's serving in the court of Saul, and, of course, his battle with the Philistine giant, Goliath.

According to the synopsis of the show, "David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he's destined to replace." Shot in Greece, the production delivers impressive backdrops, sets and costumes. All of that should lend authenticity to the series and give it an epic feel worthy of the Biblical narrative from which it springs.

The first three episodes are available to stream as of today on the subscription-based Prime Video service, with a new one releasing each Thursday hereafter through April 3rd. If you are well-versed in Scripture, then you know how things go, but the quality of the storytelling and production of House of David should make it worth watching.
