From the Christian production team of Andrew and Jon Erwin, the film is based on an uplifting true story about a boy who inspires others despite severe health challenges.

The Erwin Brothers assembled a strong cast for The Unbreakable Boy, including Zachary Levi, Christian actors Patricia Heaton and Todd Terry, and Jacob Laval, who plays the aforementioned boy. Despite suffering from Autism and a rare condition known as brittle bone disease, his character is endowed with an infectious zeal for life and an "incredible spirit," as the synopsis puts it.
Based on a 2014 book, the screenplay was written by Jon Gunn, a Believer who also directed the film. The Erwins were joined as producers by Kevin Downs, their partner at Kingdom Story Company, the outfit that made the movie together with Lionsgate studios.
They cast Levi in the role of the boy's father as something of a twofer: he played the lead in this one and then American Underdog, with the films being shot back-to-back in Oklahoma in 2020, the Covid year. Interestingly, that second picture about football star Kurt Warner came out in 2021, as Christian Film Blog wrote at the time, while this new film was shelved. That happened despite its having a planned release date of March, 2022.
The reason for the delay has never been made public, but it will now hit theaters tomorrow, February 21st, and you can get a better feel for what to expect from the trailer below.
