The Christian film is losing theaters fast, but still turns a good number at the weekend box office.
Now entering its eighth week in release, Overcomer earned $167,000 from Friday through Sunday, putting it in 23rd place overall, according to Box Office Mojo. And it did that after its theater count dropped 55% from the previous weekend, leaving it playing in just 298 venues.
The sixth feature film from the brother duo of Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick - the top filmmakers in the faith-based movie sector - Overcomer has performed well since it debuted in late August, bringing in $34.3 million in domestic ticket revenue against a production budget of $5 million.
It currently sits in 19th place all time among the top performers in the Christian genre, only $200,000 behind Courageous, the 2011 hit movie also from the Kendrick Brothers. We suspect Overcomer will move past that one, but the dropping theater count won't make it easy.
